Marcus books the Carole Astor Suite at the St. Regis Hotel in Bangkok. All day, preparations are being made by a team of people. 6 florists work on the suite bedroom filling it wall to ceiling with beautiful floral creations. A string quartet sets up in the sitting room ready to welcome Irma to the room when she enters. A photographer waits hiding in the bathroom ready to pounce if she says 'yes'. Rose petals and candles lead the way from the hallway, pass the string quartet to the bedroom. The hotel's head bartender is on the ready with a bottle of champagne and an old Samurai sword used to cut the top neck of the bottle when she says 'yes'.
Marcus planned a pre-birthday dinner in the Japanese restaurant on the ground floor of the St. Regis Hotel. He hates Japanese food so it was a nice surprise for Irma's birthday as she loves it. After dinner they had a drink in the lobby bar and Marcus asked Irma can he go look at one of the hotel rooms before they go home. Because of Marcus's strange fixation with hotels, this was nothing unusual for Irma and is a common occurrence.
It was 23:50, 10 mins before she turned 30. The hotel manager who had been assisting in the planning of the event, stayed on to make sure everything went smoothly and led Marcus and Irma to the room, quietly keeping all secret. Once he opened the door to the suite and Irma seen the string quartet, flowers and candles she knew something was up. Marcus pretended it was a special surprise for her 30th birthday but her suspicions were already starting to question.
As they walked through the sitting room and opened the door to the bedroom overlooking Bangkok city, she got a further surprise by seeing how the room was decorated. On the bed, lay the new Samsung S6 Edge phone which she has had her eye on for quite a while.
He took her to the phone and told her that this was the surprise for her 30th birthday but that there was something inside the phone. He swipped the phone open and it revealed a timer counting down to midnight. He asked her did she know what this means and she fumbled. He reminded her that he promised her 8 years ago he would propose to her before she turned 30 and that the clock said he had 4 mins left. He got down on one knee, took out the ring and ask her to be his wife.
